MEMBERS of a Southport golf club have raised more than £2000 at a fundraising event.
Lady Captain of Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club, Pauline Rooney, chose the Community Link Foundation as her charity of the year for her 12 months as Captain.
She recently held a golf day for lady members of the club with over 70 ladies taking part. As well as the golf, and the dinner, they held a raffle to add to the funds raised and were able to sell tickets to both men and women at the club.
The golf day raised a staggering £2,531 for the Community Link Foundation which will be used to support people and projects in the area who are looking for funding.
Pauline said: “As Lady Captain I am allowed one day in my year to raise money for a charity and I chose the Community Link Foundation as it was important to me that the money should be used locally. I felt quite strongly that the money should benefit someone in this area. The golf day was really good fun, I have really enjoyed my year as Lady Captain.”
Dave Barron and Enda Rylands, chairman and vice chair of the Community Link Foundation recently went to meet the ladies who took part and were able to tell them about some of the work of the charity.
Dave said: “It was great to be able to personally thank everyone who took part in the golf day, and to thank Pauline for choosing CLF as her charity during her captain’s year.
“We are very grateful to them for raising such a brilliant amount and will be able to give it out to worthy causes once we start looking at the grant applications in the new year.”
