Parkinsons UK Ormskirk branch has been awarded a grant by the Community Link Foundation.
The grant of £1,500 will go towards providing respite care and physiotherapy and therapy sessions foe people suffering from Parkinsons and their carers.
The group meets monthly in Ormskirk and provides a social gathering where people can talk and share experiences as well as going on social outings to the theatre and other places of interest.
The grant will be used for respite care to give families a much needed break while the person with Parkinsons is looked after by a carer. Members will be allowed an allotted amount of sessions of respite care, physiotherapy or therapy sessions.
Veronica Holden, treasurer of the group, said: “This grant will make such a difference for our members. The therapy sessions will help the people with Parkinsons, and the respite care will free up time for family carers to have much needed ‘me time’ and for both member with Parkinsons and their carers to have a relaxing back, neck, arms and hand or leg massage.
“We have enough funding in place to take us to the end of the year but we would have been left without anything to carry on next year so we are so grateful. ”
Community Link Foundation is a charity that supports people and organisations within Southport, Formby, Ormskirk, Hesketh Bank, Rufford and Banks. It accepts grant applications which are then considered by members of the board against criteria set out on their website.
Enda Rylands, chairman of Community Link Foundation, said: “We were very keen to be able to support the application from Parkinsons UK Ormskirk as the service they provide to people with Parkinsons and their carers is so vital to people’s health and well being. They do such a great job supporting people and we wish them all the best for all the future sessions.”
