Community Link Foundation has awarded a £250 grant to Formby Hub to help provide a Christmas day celebration for older residents who might otherwise spend the day alone.
Many older residents in Formby experience social isolation with related health issues the highest in the borough, making events like this essential.
The funding will contribute towards creating a welcoming festive event that offers social interaction in a warm and welcoming environment, with a Christmas dinner provided for all the guests. Alongside the meal, guests will receive presents and treats, ensuring they feel valued and remembered at Christmastime.
Enda Rylands, Chair of Community Link Foundation, said: “We are delighted to support Formby Hub in their mission to bring people together on Christmas Day. No one should feel alone during the festive season, and this lunch ensures that older residents can share in the warmth and joy of the occasion. We hope our contribution helps make a real difference to those who need it most.”
Cllr Catie Page, Chair of Formby Hub, highlighted the challenges of securing sufficient funding for the lunch each year. Contributions from businesses in the have been unpredictable in the past, making additional financial support crucial to the success of the event.
“I have sought funding from various sources, but contributions vary each year,” said Cllr Page. “We are very grateful to Community Link Foundation for supporting this event for another year.
“This meal is more than just food. It’s an opportunity to combat loneliness and bring joy to those who need it most.”
The grant from Community Link Foundation will help ensure that the event remains a success, bringing comfort and connection to Formby’s older residents at Christmas.
