Thank you for your generosity in supporting
Community Link Foundation.
Without your support, our charity wouldn’t be able to continue supporting so many good causes in our region.
The Community Link Foundation was delighted to be able to assist a grant request from Colin Toohey and Gareth Lang who are organising an attempt at the longest rugby match world record in July of this year with the proceeds going towards a physio vest for brave young Ella who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.
Colin Toohey contacted Community link Foundation looking for grant assistance towards the costs of staging the event so that all proceeds could go directly to Ella’s vest.
The plan is to smash the previous world record of nearly 25 hours continuous rugby and raise money for the physiotherapy vest that will improve Ella’s quality of life with additional sponsorship going to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Colin and Gareth told Community Link Foundation “This is an official world record attempt and we have a lot of additional costs associated with putting this on. We have to have sufficient floodlighting to allow for a safe game, we have to record the entire game, in addition there are lots of rules to be followed such as ensureing that a competitive game takes place. This grant will help cover some of these costs and knowing we have this offers us some security in putting the event on. Ella is such a brave young lady and having this Physio vest will mean that she will need to spend less time in hospital”
Community Link Foundation chairperson David Barron said “this is a great example of people in the community coming together to help each other, our grant will enable them to reach their target a little quicker without worrying about costs associated with the event. We wish Colin, Gareth the other players and everyone associated with the club the very best of luck in achieving their target over what promises to be an exciting couple of days”
Colin and Gareth are looking for more local business to get involved in what they hope will be a festival weekend and anybody wanting to help should get in touch via the Rugby Club.
